Vampire Weekend is set to embark on an extensive 39-date North American tour in 2024, coinciding with the release of their highly anticipated album, “Only God Was Above.” The tour commences in early June, following a record release show in Austin and festival appearances at notable events like the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
The North American leg of the tour will feature multiple performances at iconic venues, including Madison Square Garden in New York, Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago, KettleHouse Amphitheater in Bonner, MT, and The Greek Theatre in Berkeley. Notably, the band’s visits to New York, Bonner, and Berkeley will include matinee shows, adding an extra layer of excitement, especially for fans like Jamie Lee Curtis.
Vampire Weekend’s tour promises a diverse lineup of support acts, ranging from Phish’s Mike Gordon to Maya Rudolph’s Prince cover band Princess, along with The English Beat, Ra Ra Riot, Cults, and the Billy Joel tribute act Turnstiles.
To provide a sneak peek into “Only God Was Above Us,” scheduled for release on April 5th via Columbia Records, Vampire Weekend has unveiled the first two singles, “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops.” Accompanying these releases are visually captivating music videos, featuring street footage of 1988 New York shot by photographer Steven Siegel, whose work also serves as the album’s artwork.
The video for “Gen-X Cops” goes a step further, recreating the 1980s New York subway with meticulous attention to detail, including an authentic subway car and a “meticulously researched” lighting rig to accurately capture the era’s subway tunnel lighting patterns.
For fans eagerly anticipating the tour, it kicks off on April 8th in Austin, TX, with subsequent stops in various cities across North America, concluding with a double-header at Madison Square Garden in New York in early October. Each tour date promises a unique musical experience, featuring an array of talented support acts and showcasing Vampire Weekend’s eclectic style.
